Why earnings and debt carry the most weight
Because medical assisting is a career-focused path, we gave the most weight to return on investment: how earnings compare with debt and what students actually pay out of pocket. A lower net price paired with solid early earnings moved a program up, even if it lacked name recognition. A school with strong earnings but high debt did not automatically outrank a school with modest earnings and low debt.
What the data can and cannot tell you
We also looked at graduation rate as a general signal of student support and completion, with an important caveat: this rate is institution-wide, not specific to the medical assistant program. It is best read as a proxy for overall student success, not a guarantee for a given cohort.
Online availability was included as a point for flexibility, but only when combined with a Medical Assistant Externship or similar in-person clinical training components.
